This is "low/no impact" work as there is no jumping, and obstacles are done at a walk. Certificate awarded upon completion of course. Full length course: Beginning puppy/dog obedience/learning class in basic (positive) training techniques to achieve a cooperative, healthy, happy, balanced dog, who will respond to basic cues, alone or around other people or dogs. Appropriate dog-to-dog meeting, interactive play and handler response is introduced. Whether your goals are for an enjoyable, well-behaved family pet, a working dog or agility or show, getting started on the right "paw" sets the stage for a lifetime of wonderful relationships and activities. This course gives the handler/owner the tools to achieve this end. Certification testing offered in CGC exercises, with certificates available upon successful completion of the test. Dogs and humans learn at different rates and in different ways. Because of our background in many types and styles of training, we are able to provide many different ways of approaching an issue, and personalize it as needed. Students should be prepared to practice at home with their dog. The five month completion time allows ample time to practice skills. Should any student want or need additional help beyond what is provided in class, they need only let us know.
Flexible, twelve hours of with-dog classes to be completed within five months. This flexible schedule accomodates the needs of many students for the days when they need to be out of town, or are unable to attend class for other reasons. Skip/miss a week or two (or more), without penalty or loosing time or money, as would be the case in the more well known, consecutive six week format (where if you miss a class and you can never totally make it up.) See below for out flexible, six hour class format (three months to complete). Group with-dog classes are held once a
week, at the Dojo, on Fridays (except Holidays or as announced) Call us at 790-DOGS (3647) prior to attending to find out which section you and your dog should start in. Because of the personalized, flexible nature of the training course, your dog may be able to enter at a higher level, or quickly move to higher levels if able to perform the skills. If needed, they can also remain at a skill level until achieving success at those skills, avoiding a situation of having to try skills they are not ready for, just because that is what the instructor has to cover that particular week. This builds a strong foundation of self-confidence, thoroughly deals with individual challenges and does not create confusion because the dog is not ready for advancement. Expect homework each week. 9447 LaPerouse (valley), Shotokan Karate Do Club Dojo, (see map below) just down the street from the City Wastewater Treatment plant, on Radcliffe. The (former) Craft Carousel was at the other end of the street. Layered dress recommended. Street shoes not allowed on Dojo floor. Extra socks available at class. See map below. Martha Fischbach, Approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, Certified T Touch Practitioner and Certified Professional Groomer, Healing Touch Practitioner Apprentice, holds numerous awards (including national), dog titles, state and local recognition, additional training in holistic methods (canine acupressure, aromatherapy, reflexology, massage, Healing Touch, homeopathics, flower essences, etc.) 25+ years experience, national conference invited presenter. Sorry no refunds, credits or transfers. Classes are to be completed within five months from registration (full course). Class Policies: You and your dog will advance to higher levels upon passing skills for each level. Classes may be added, combined, canceled or changed, subject to enrollment. Because of the generous flexibility schedule, we cannot predict the number of students at any given session. Usually, about 10 dogs maximum participate at any given time. Be sure to arrive by class starting time to ensure your space. Proof of necessary immunization/titers/veterinary recommendation required. First come, first served. Classes to be completed within the five month time frame. Skip weeks for holidays or other reasons (such as instructor training) will be announced. Proof of vaccination/titers/veterinary recommendation-should accompany registration form, or be presented at first class. Veterinarians may fax a copy to us at 790-3647. Note: Due to significant (non-contagious) health conditions (severe arthritis, disk/bone degeneration, allergies, weakened/compromised immune systems, etc.), and numerous direct and ongoing veterinary recommendations, our (demo) dogs are no longer being annually vaccinated, and are on whole food diets, so that we may prolong the quality and life of these wonderful companions to the fullest. There may be students' dogs in class with similar circumstances. If you are uncomfortable with this in any way, you should either contact me or simply not take class. For further information on the vaccination issue see these related links:
